A good vision statement should possess the all but one of the following characteristics: clarity, specificity, brevity, a sense of urgency, a sense of purpose. Take for example this statement from Google’s founder Larry Page about his personal vision: “I want to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

It is specific (organizing all information), clear (he has no doubt what he wants to do) and urgent (making it universally accessible). A good vision statement should possess the all but one of the following characteristics: clarity, specificity, brevity, a sense of urgency, a sense of purpose.

The final characteristic that makes up a good long-form content is ownership. Who owns your company? What are you passionate about? This may sound like an obvious question–but in today’s business environment where people take jobs with companies they don’t necessarily care.
