An X-linked allele is an allele of a gene that can be passed on to a female child from her father. The x-linked alleles are found on the X chromosome, and females have two copies of the same gene in their DNA, while males only carry one copy.

This means that when a male passes an x-linked allele onto his daughter, she will always have it. Not all alleles are x-linked alleles though  there are many different genes besides just those found on the X chromosome.
