To be blunt, a marketing strategy specifies an objective, a set of processes, and a set of tactics to attain that target.

A marketing strategy specifies two major things, a target and a goal. The actual task that the marketing team is trying to accomplish. So a marketing strategy is nothing more than a set of methods to achieve a goal.

If we look at marketing strategies from a marketing standpoint, we can’t help but notice the similarities between our own marketing and the marketing that Google uses in determining which websites we should link to. The main difference being that Google wants to know a lot more about us and what we want to do with our lives, while marketers want to know a lot more about you and your interests.

This is why we, the marketers, can never seem to figure out what you want to achieve with your marketing efforts. For example, we all have an idea of what our ideal job would be, and when we put our resume out there, we want to get the job that is most likely to make us money and get our resume to those of the most likely to want to hire us. Unfortunately, this works best when our resume is “generic”.

That’s why you should not put out your resume for jobs that you think might not be as lucrative as they appear. That’s why if you are applying for jobs and someone asks if you are a “marketing prodigy” we recommend you say that you are not, you are just a “marketing prodigy” with a degree in marketing and business.

That’s what marketing professionals do. That’s what is referred to as a marketing strategy. A marketing strategy is a list of things, like a marketing plan, that a company does to make sure they can get the job most likely to make them money.

To reach the goals set out in the marketing strategy, we have to reach the goals set out in the marketing plan.
