It’s almost like we’re right back where we started in the early 1900s.

This is an example of a surgery for which there is no clear consensus about the benefits, so it is hard to justify. I do, however, believe that micro-surgical treatments are the treatment of choice. They’re quicker and less invasive than brain surgery, and they avoid the possibility of damaging the patient with a major blood vessel leak. Of course, there’s no way to know for sure how safe this procedure really is, or if it is even safe.

The good news is that theres probably a safe way to surgically remove a blood vessel from a patient without permanently damaging the tissue, and that is microsurgery. The bad news is that many people, such as diabetics, have a very abnormal blood vessel wall that makes this procedure less than optimal. The fact that it is not possible to surgically remove a blood vessel without permanently scarring the tissue is a major safety concern to me.
